Guidelines

new informationOctober 2004
This is a special warning about scammers (I don't mean spammers, I mean scammers). Spam is a relatively harmless repetitive email, which is sent in masses to various people in the process of promoting something. Similar to the telephone calls or the leaflets you get at home. Scam is defined as "a fraudulent business scheme" (www.hyperdictionary.com/dictionary/scam). This could be very serious and those exposed to it may loose large amounts of money and maybe more.
For a few weeks we tried to request that people who respond must also be registered users. This does not sound to work and may result in a slow down in replies from otherwise innocent but scared people. So we have removed this requirement. As always you are on "your own" when placing or replying to an ad. We do have some guidelines below which you must read, but this is not all. We wish to add here a few more general guidelines to help you to get to know your partner. This again does not cover all potential problems. It is impossible to be absolutely safe these days even when you are sitting home and praying. But we will try to help a bit more:
  • If you are listing your email make sure you have the best virus protection possible, daily updated.
  • If you receive an email from us unexpected, which includes attachment(s), never open it. Virus "geeks" can masquerade under any identity. We will never send you an attachment unless it was discussed before with you and you know the type of file we are sending. This is a very rare occurrence.
  • Never reply to any emails that offer you deals that are too good to be true. Such as: winning lotteries, share in the profits from obscure deals (inheritances, hidden money, stolen money etc).
  • Never reply to any emails requesting your help for even what it sounds like a good cause, such as helping a family etc. This is cruel, but unfortunately if a person really needs help he usually does not have access to the Internet.
  • Once you get a reply, you should insist in getting an Internet traceable listed telephone number and a full name and address before you close any deal. From www.infobel.com/teldir/ you can trace almost any name and number around the globe. If this is difficult then request something equivalent. The person you will be dealing must be traceable. Most good people are.
  • If you still have doubts for any reasons, spent a few minutes in the Web and search various combinations. You can search for names, emails; you can combine your searches with other words (such as scam) etc.
Finally we have removed all emails from this site and replaced then with forms. These forms can be used for all purposes and you will find links in most pages of this WebSite.

Remember: Be careful, but don't hide in the closet either,
it is among the least safe places.
General
  • SellShareAndExchange.com cannot accept any responsibility for transactions conducted as a result of placing or following advertisements in our site. We only provide a vehicle for the different parties to meet. You must exercise your common sense and do all checking that you feel you must do in order to protect your interest and avoid surprises.
  • Make sure your listing (or your reply to a listing) represents reality and all your expectations. Be honest, mention the plusses and minuses. This is the only way you can expect a reciprocal honesty from the other party.
  • In addition to the photographs you will be publishing with your advertisement, you should be prepared to exchange additional photographs with your corresponding party, in an effort to achieve a transaction without surprises for either party.
  • Before paying any money, meeting any person or sending any product make sure that the person you are talking is a real person and located in the address you have from him/her. Try to find ways of cross checking information, such as verify telephones from published lists (the Internet covers the whole world as far as telephone directories).
  • For those who decide to publish their emails with their ads be especially careful of scam offers, such as winning lotteries for large sums of money, or provide me with a bank account and I will send you millions of dollars etc. Anything that sounds too good to be true, is probably a scam. Simply delete it.
  • Finally keep in mind that the Internet is both a wonderful tool but also a vehicle for scams. Don't be offended by questions the other party is asking. Reply as best as you can and expect a similar treatment from the other party. Always be very careful with information you exchange on the web. For extra security we do not store your personal information (name, telephone etc) in our server. Any transaction must be preceded with a number of e-mails and both parties should try and check the origin of these e-mails. Nothing in life is really free.

Sell

Sell is a function of exchanging money for a product or service. Be selective for what you are advertising for sale. Remember you are allowed up to two simultaneous ads per year.

  • If you are selling a product over the net, you must make arrangements as to the shipping details. Packing, transportation, insurance and possible duties, may be an additional expense and you must make it clear who pays for that extra cost.

Share

Share means we are enjoying together products or services that both parties provide. House share, also called hosting, is an excellent method to meet people from all cultures. Share your house and possibly your car, but also share your ideas, your hopes and your food. Learn and teach at the same time. People may eventually become good friends despite large distance that may lie between them. So there is only one general guideline for share transactions:

  • Get to know the other party as well as you can, before you attempt a sharing arrangement. Eventually you have to take some risks. We are taking risks every day by simply living. You have to drive, you have to eat and yet you realize that doing these functions you are always taking a risk.

Exchange

Exchange is the process of providing a product or service in exchange for a similar or different product or service at the same or different times.

  • If you are exchanging a house make sure that you leave the house spotless, in exactly the same way you would expect to find the other person's house and your own house when you return back home.
  • Provide written information to your exchange party with regards to:
    • Local area facilities (restaurants, dry cleaning, supermarkets, drug stores, post office, parks, transportation etc). A map or a sketch of the area surrounding your house would be very useful.
    • House facilities and peculiarities (heater, air conditioner, alarms, television, kitchen appliances, washer, dryer etc.)
    • Locations of clean sheets, towels, as well as, other material available to the visiting party.
    • Noise limitation related to your neighborhood.
    • Most important explain to your visitor all details related to security. Personal security, home security, health security etc. Leave a list of telephones for emergency.
  • Clarify prior to the exchange who pays what for the period of the visit (such as telephone, electricity, heating and other recurring expenses). Have a clear understanding on how you will arrive at the charge and how any difference will be paid. Make sure also you have an understanding on how and who pays any damages.
  • Introduce the people in your group who will participate in the exchange. Sharing pictures is a very good idea. You should hope that a friendship will be born from this exchange despite the distance that may separate you.
  • If you decide to exchange cars, make sure that this is allowed under your insurance or lease agreements. You may have to add an addendum to your insurance for a fee.
