Sicily: The island everyone should visit.
Sicily is the biggest, the most populated and famous island of the Mediterraneo. She is the synthesis of all the major civilizations that existed in the area. Trips to Greece cannot be complete without a visit to what Greek ancient civilization has left in Sicily.
The island coasts are variable and interesting. There are nice bays, promontories and minuscule inlets, wide sandy beaches, tall bluffs and many other natural beauties.
The mountains continue the Calabrian Appennino in certain way, dividing in to numerous and characteristic systems: to the north the Peloritani, that continue in the Nebrodi and in the Madonie, to the South - East the Erei, that continue in the Iblei; to the west of the Erei the long series of plateaus and the mountains without a definite arrangement; to the North of the southern coast is the big plateau and isolated majestic Etna, which is the highest Sicilian mountain and the greatest volcano of Europe.
The climate is mild in the winter, moderate in the summer (at Palermo middle temperature of the coldest month 10 degrees and the hottest 25 degrees). The flora is rich and varied, going from the most typical vegetation subtropical to the junipers in the elevated areas of Etna. You can enjoy the benefits of warm springs also in full winter. The monuments are numerous and belong to all the ages with external influences: Greek, Roman, Arabic, Norman and Spanish, which gave to the Sicilian art, character and taste. The folklore is very rich, varied and colored.

RAGUSA: Picturesque city is located between two deep valleys and is divided in two areas: Ragusa and Ragusa Ibla. After the modern district that opens beyond the railway station, one enters the old city and arrives immediately to the Cathedral of S. Baptist Giovanni. Interesting also is the church of S. Maria delle Scale, with the aisle in Gothic Sicilian.
From the church square Ragusa Ibla is admired (from the Sicilian Hibla Heraca) and the old city where there are notable monuments like: the church of S. Maria of the Idria and Cathedral, which is considered among the most typical monuments of the seven hundreds Sicilian era, together with the ancient portal of S. George (Gothic -Catalan).
An interesting excursion is to the mines of alfalto, which reminds us that in this province were the richest layers of oil from Italy.

MODICA: Located south of Ragusa in a picturesque position between two streams. Possesses notable religious monuments between which is the Church of S. George, fine sample of the art of 700s in Sicily. It is located on top of an imposing stairway, one of the most fascinating architectural scenes from Sicily. Other churches include, S. Maria of Jesus, the only monument of 400s still here after the earthquake of the 1693.
On the main street of the city the facade of S. Pietro is admired.

SIRACUSA: One of the most important and original cities of Sicily and one of the destinations most interesting for a trip in Sicily and in the whole of Italy. The winding roads still remember the mysteries of the near and distant past. The monuments according to Cicerone are the biggest of the Greek cities and the most beautiful in the world for the perfume of the fields.
Situated on islet of the ancient Ortigia, is a very active commercial harbor, it has a moderate climate.
It flourished in old times and started to decay after the Roman sack of the 272 B.C. Among the monuments are Christian catacombs and middle age ones that testify of the interest of Siracusa in all the times.
The city is crowded with ancient Temples, Amphitheatres, Castles and Churches.
